Online

I have been developing online communities since 1995 (eWorld, Apple’s online service). Since then I have designed, created and moderated online spaces independently, for the Vancouver School Board and for the British Columbia Teachers’ Federation / Simon Fraser University. I have also worked on numerous environments for the province’s distance education schools (2002-2005). These environments have included high school courses, professional development forums, conference workshops and extra-curricular spaces for creative high school students (“The Attic”).

Testimonials:

‘One of my favorite ( and I have several) online experiences with Shula Klinger was the day our distance education Social Studies 10 class ‘invited’ Louis-Joseph Papineau to a secret meeting of Patriotes after he had been exiled to the United States. Using Elluminate we brought an actor in to play Papineau and the students were assigned other roles such as newspaper reporters from all the main papers at the time, to ask questions. Shula arranged for the ambience and for meeting to be broken up by the local constabulary and for Louis-Joseph to barely escape with his life. It was the highlight of the year for many of our students.’

“Your ATTIC was by far the best discussion at our knowTIPS conference 2005. In particular our participants were impressed with your ability to create online ice-breakers that really worked. Your course page changed every day and had the most posts in any of our discussion areas. Your ATTIC was extremely well received and many of the participants have referenced your work with their clients during this past year.”
Frances Long, Director of the KnowPlace family of sites

“I met you in the satellite “Attic” you installed at KnowTips. Congratulations on a great tool and a great approach.”
Ed Jewett, Conference Participant

“I simply must tell you how impressed I am with your KnowTIPS Moodle area, the quality of the resources and the way in which you build community.”
Carole Cotton, Online Educator

“You have an incredible imagination and have certainly created an amazing communication vehicle.”
Rebecca Budd, Vancouver parent
